accommodation available

A two-days full-immersion hands-on workshop to be held in the Umbrian Tiber Valley, during which you will practice the analog photography darkroom techniques for to develop a black and white roll of film and how to print it in the darkroom with silver gelatine photo paper.

Every student (max 6) will operate on their own negatives, get them developed and contacted, have some enlargements from the best shots in the darkroom during the last day of the workshop.

You will go back home with your films developed, a contact sheet each and some blow-ups of your best frames.

What will you learn and do at the end of these two-days darkroom workshop in Umbria?

Participants will learn how to prepare chemicals, how to handle them, how to beahve in the lab, how to properly develop a black and whirte roll of film and how to make prints out of it.

This course is not a batch developing session. Students are asked to show up with a maximum of 3 rolls of film and not epecting to get all of them developed. We will start with one and – if everythingh will go smooth – we will then proceed with the next steps. In case the first roll goes wrong forort any reason, we will go on with the second one, and so on.

Same rules apply to printing phase: thi is not a batch printing course. Rather is a workshop for to learn how to print in your own darkroom. The course will provide you with the necessary skills to make good silver gelatine prints at home.

Materials to bring with you for personal use

All materials and equipment needed are provided with the course fee. Every participant should arrive with at least three rolls of film already shot but developed. We will do development in the lab.

There is a specific for the films we can use and we cannot. Please read carefully the Film Guide at TheDarkroom Academy blog for to be ready with the right tools.
